No Strangers - The Iconic Rick Roll, Still not Giving us up in 2026

You find yourself browsing a popular forum or newsfeed from your phone or computer - a typical scene - familiar to everyone who's been around since the advent of the internet.

When suddenly, you see a link to something interesting, something incredible that is so outrageous that you simply have to click, just to see it for yourself.

You click.

And suddenly, your curiosity turns to confusion, as the smooth dance-pop beats of the 1980's pop classic - Never Gonna Give You Up begin to blare from your device' speakers.

This is the timeless link-trap of the RickRoll - a type of internet trolling that has endured until the present day.

The playbook is simple - bait someone into clicking a link, only for it to inevitably bring the user to the YouTube video for Rick Astley's pop sensation, regardless of what the original premise was.

The reactions to this classic bait and switch range wildly from confusion, frustration and amusement, to even seething rage:

"Not this f***ing song AGAIN!"

They exclaimed, screaming into the internet void. But no response could be heard over the upbeat 1980s pop stylings of Rick Astley.

That's just how the game is played.

They knew the rules. And so do we.
